Why slang should be banned
Some language experts think that banning the use of certain words takes away from someone's identity and how they express themselves.
For example, in different parts of the country people might shorten words or have phrases that they use, which aren't used anywhere else. It's a part of their local community. Young people are typically the innovators of language change, so actually we should be celebrating that rather than banning it in the classroom.
Slang words have been around for as long as the English language has. We even use slang today that was written by playwright William Shakespeare over years ago! He came up with words which are common now, such as 'eyeball' and 'bedroom'. Cockney rhyming 'slang' has been around since s in east London on the markets!
You might have heard of the phrase 'apple and pears' which means 'stairs'! If slang is used often enough it can make its way into the Oxford English dictionary.
The more a word is used, the more it becomes accepted. Some words also get phased out too if they're not used as much. Do you think slang words should be banned in school? Let us know what you think in the comments below.

Published 23 May Published 1 February Slang is for some may seem informal and of a lower class. But it is the way people communicate. And, Whether we like it or not, More and more slang words are becoming more and more acceptable in everyday life.
Banning slang would be banning students' way of speaking. We want them to find their voice, Not lose it. I work in a school in East London. Talking " proper english" isn't always the most effective way to achieve a positive impact on pupils. Being from East London myself my cockney accent and slang is sometimes unavoidable has I've spoke this way my whole life.
Pupils often comment that they feel more confident talking to me about classroom and behaviour issues because they know I've been and done it in the same area I have effectively been them and shown you can succeed. Whereas some teachers maybe academic there pupil relationships and behaviour management can suffer due to middle class accents and unreliability to there pupils local area.

First of all the child will be learning english so theyll know the proper grammer and stuff like that.
Slang is just the way the want to talk to their friends. And besised even if you do ban it they will just use it when the teacher is out of earshot or whisper so theyll still use it anyway, which makes it useless. Children learn better when they feel comfortable being who they are. The way they speak is a big part of their identity and taking that away from them is sending a message of rejection. Give them the tools and the information so they can use them, but don't force them to "fit in" win a culture that they feel rejected.
Freedom of speech just the freedom of speech in america anywhere else they can solve it and only like really bad slang should be banned if that. I need more words in my word count help me plz omg still more words jeez are you kidding me man or woman. I went to a private school but that didnt stop slang getting into our vocab.
Slang is part of our sociolect and idiolect so shouldntbe banned.
