Digital Spy recently caught up with Jazmine Franks, who plays Esther, to hear how her character's exit came about and why she's so proud of her time on the soap. How are you feeling now that your time at Hollyoaks has come to an end? I quit university for Hollyoaks , so I've always been doing something. So now I've got all this free time, I'm like: 'What do I do with it? Was it your choice to leave? Obviously, our producer Bryan [Kirkwood] was the one who said: 'Look, we just think we've come to an end with Esther.

I got it. I was like: 'Yeah, I've been here so long. I've done so much. I've had an absolute ball. I'm obviously sad, but I've not been upset by it or anything like that. The time felt right.

Are you glad they haven't decided to kill Esther off? I think that's everyone's fear, to be killed off. It feels like you've done something wrong.

You're like: 'You're killing me? What did I do? And being part of the Hollyoaks family, that's such a big thing. Do you think there's a chance you could come back in the future? I'd hate to be the person that says, 'No, I'm never going back' and then in a year's time is like, 'Hey! I'm back! It's me! So I don't know. Someone might die, someone might get married, someone might be terminally ill.

The voice of reason might need to return! Were you glad that they brought back Anna Shaffer as Ruby for your final scenes? Having her around for my final few scenes was perfect. I couldn't have asked for anything more. Having the gang back together was great. Has Anna given you any advice about leaving the show, having gone through it herself? With tensions still running high after the Darcy debacle , Esther claims that she no longer considers Jack as her family — prompting him to retaliate by declaring that he'd be happy to never see her again.

Later on, Darren steps in to make sure that Esther doesn't leave under a cloud and manages to play peacemaker between her and Jack. Esther's loved ones are all dressed up as they wave her off — and it looks like there won't be a dry eye in the house.

Digital Spy exclusively revealed Esther's exit earlier this month. When Esther helps Maddie escape from being attacked by a man, she tells Esther that she misjudged her.

Esther tries to kiss Maddie who is not interested. She truants college but when Jack confronts her she walks off, unaware that he has collapsed from an heart attack. She punches Maddie in the face when she goeds her about Jack.

Phoebe realises that Esther is being bullied and she attacks Maddie and sides with Esther. Sinead and Ruby begin to join in on the bullying and Jen tries to help her out. After learning that Ruby plans to elope to Gretna Green to get married, she forces a drugged-up Bart to chase them. However, Bart begins speeding forcing Madie who is driving the minibus to also speed up. The brakes in Maddie's minivan soon break and she drives the van into a wedding venue. Esther tries to convince Bart to go and help out but he drives away before she gets a chance to get out of the car.

Jaci Stephen of the Daily Mail felt that Esther, Sinead and Ruby obtaining drugs was boring and quipped "the only drugs I need are sleeping pills to get me through this boredom.
